Crab chowder

After reading a particularly yummy looking recipe for crab chowder (and realizing I had those pesky few celery stalks expiring) I decided to give it a go.

This recipe grabbed me because of the simple ingredients, fairly quick time and low calorie content in a chowder (?!) Yes please! 🙂

Nutritional Information for 1.5 c. serving (makes 6) as directed.

Calories: 265

Fat: 6.8g

Protein: 16.3g

Carbohydrate: 36.5g

Fiber: 3.1g

Cholesterol: 47mg

I even made mine with skim milk rather than the 2% they instruct and did not add any salt so it was a bit healthier and still so delicious.

Simmering onions and celery

It was also really easy and cost-efficient by mixing few expensive ingredients like real crab with on-hand, cheap ingredients like celery, spices and canned creamed corn. My creamed corn (which I would never eat by the way but Jeremy loves, so this was a great way to use it) was faaancy, see?

It came together wonderfully and smelled fabulous. Look at this ladle full of goodness.


Including prep/chopping time, it took me around 45 minutes to get this into bowls.

Jeremy was anxiously awaiting the final product with saltines in-hand. We both really enjoyed it while watching Black Swan (which is another post altogether, wowza).
